City-Wise Prices: Mumbai vs Delhi vs Bengaluru vs Chennai

City-Wise Prices: Mumbai vs Delhi vs Bengaluru vs Chennai

If you are thinking about getting a prosthetic hand or limb, one of the biggest questions you may have is about price. People often ask: does the cost change depending on where I live? The answer is yes. In India, prosthetic prices can vary from city to city.

Why is this so? The reasons are many—living costs, clinic facilities, availability of skilled experts, and even local demand. This means the same prosthetic can feel more expensive in one city than another.

In this article, we will look closely at four major cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. We will see how prices differ, what affects these costs, and what you should keep in mind before making a choice.

Our goal is simple: to give you clear, honest information so you can make the best decision for yourself or your loved one.

Mumbai

The Financial Capital’s Higher Costs

Mumbai is often called the city of dreams.

Mumbai is often called the city of dreams. But it is also one of the costliest cities to live in. This high cost of living shows up in healthcare too, including prosthetic services. Clinics and hospitals in Mumbai pay higher rents, higher salaries, and higher running costs. Naturally, these expenses affect the final price of prosthetics.

On average, a good-quality prosthetic in Mumbai may be priced higher than in many other cities. Still, the city offers excellent facilities, with some of the best prosthetic centers and experienced specialists.

Range of Prosthetic Prices in Mumbai

Basic mechanical hands or limbs in Mumbai often start around ₹1.5 lakh. Mid-range prosthetics, which include more advanced grip or lightweight designs, usually fall between ₹2–3 lakh. If you are looking at advanced bionic prosthetics like Robobionics’ Grippy Bionic Hand, prices generally stay in the range of ₹2.15–3 lakh.

Imported bionics, however, can cross ₹10 lakh in Mumbai, which puts them out of reach for most families. This is why many people prefer locally made innovations that balance quality and affordability.

What You Get for the Price

In Mumbai, the higher cost usually comes with certain advantages. Many centers here provide modern trial rooms, on-site physiotherapy, and easy access to multiple specialists under one roof. This convenience adds value, especially for users who want everything in one place.

However, one must keep in mind that not every expensive clinic guarantees better results. What truly matters is the expertise of the prosthetist and the quality of aftercare.

Factors That Push Costs Up in Mumbai

Several factors make prosthetic prices in Mumbai slightly higher:

  • Rent and overheads for clinics in prime areas
  • Salaries for highly trained specialists
  • Demand from a large urban population
  • Higher logistics costs for importing certain components

These factors do not necessarily mean you get better quality, but they do explain why Mumbai prices often seem steeper compared to other cities.

Is Mumbai Worth the Price

For many people, yes. If you live in Mumbai, you save on travel and can easily reach your clinic for fittings and reviews. The city also offers quick access to advanced technology. But if budget is your main concern, you may want to compare with Delhi, Bengaluru, or Chennai before deciding.

Delhi

The Capital City Advantage

Delhi is very different from Mumbai when it comes to prosthetic prices. While it is also a major metro city, the cost of living here is slightly lower. This often makes prosthetics more affordable in Delhi than in Mumbai, without compromising on quality.

The capital is home to several reputed prosthetic centers, many of which partner with government programs, NGOs, or startups like Robobionics. This opens up more options for people with different budgets.

Price Range in Delhi

In Delhi, mechanical prosthetics usually start at around ₹1.2–1.5 lakh. Advanced bionic hands such as Grippy fall in the same ₹2.15–3 lakh range as in Mumbai. However, because operating costs are lower, many clinics in Delhi are able to keep prices steady or even slightly below Mumbai’s.

Imported prosthetics again remain on the higher side, often ranging from ₹8–12 lakh. These are available in Delhi too, but most people prefer locally designed alternatives that deliver nearly the same experience at a fraction of the cost.

Facilities and Services in Delhi

Delhi’s prosthetic centers are known for offering detailed training sessions and review visits. Some centers even provide home visits in nearby areas, which is a big plus for patients who may not be able to travel often.

The city also benefits from being a hub for medical education and training, which means many prosthetists here are highly skilled and up to date with global practices.

What Makes Delhi Affordable

There are a few reasons why Delhi prosthetic prices can be slightly lower than Mumbai:

  • Lower rent and clinic operating costs
  • Larger number of providers, which creates competition
  • Government and NGO-backed initiatives to keep prices accessible
  • Easier availability of trained staff from local institutions

This makes Delhi a practical choice for many families who want a balance of affordability and quality.

Why Choose Delhi

If you live in North India, Delhi is often the most convenient choice. Travel costs are lower, and you can find excellent care without the steep overheads of Mumbai. Plus, the presence of NGOs and charitable organizations in the city can help some patients reduce costs further.

Bengaluru

The Tech City’s Unique Landscape

Bengaluru, often called India’s Silicon Valley

Bengaluru, often called India’s Silicon Valley, is known for technology, innovation, and a younger population that embraces modern solutions. This spirit of innovation extends to healthcare as well, including prosthetics.

Here, the prices of prosthetics fall somewhere between Delhi and Mumbai. While the cost of living is not as high as Mumbai, it is still significant because Bengaluru has grown into a bustling metro with rising rents and professional salaries.

Price Range in Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, mechanical prosthetics typically start at around ₹1.3–1.6 lakh. Advanced bionic hands such as Grippy again stay in the range of ₹2.15–3 lakh, which is similar to other metros.

Imported prosthetics are available here too, with prices ranging from ₹9–11 lakh. However, as in other cities, the majority of users prefer Indian-made bionic hands because they offer nearly the same features at a fraction of the cost.

Why Bengaluru Appeals to Users

What makes Bengaluru stand out is its strong culture of rehabilitation and assistive technology. Many startups and rehabilitation centers are based here, and they often collaborate with prosthetic makers to give patients better experiences.

The city is also home to several hospitals with specialized orthotics and prosthetics departments, ensuring users have access to well-trained experts.

Training and Aftercare in Bengaluru

Because the city has a young and tech-savvy population, many prosthetic centers in Bengaluru focus on digital training methods. Patients are often introduced to gamified apps and rehabilitation exercises that make learning fun and engaging.

Follow-up reviews are also easier here because of the strong medical network. With tele-rehabilitation becoming common, patients can stay connected to their prosthetists even if they live outside the city.

Cost Factors in Bengaluru

Several things shape the price of prosthetics in Bengaluru:

  • A growing but competitive healthcare market
  • Rising rents in prime locations
  • Access to advanced rehab technologies
  • Partnerships between hospitals and startups that bring innovation

Overall, the balance of cost and quality makes Bengaluru an excellent choice, especially for younger patients who want modern solutions and engaging training experiences.

Why Choose Bengaluru

If you are from South India and prefer a city with modern healthcare infrastructure, Bengaluru is a strong option. While prices may not be the lowest, the quality of service, rehabilitation options, and focus on user-friendly innovation make it worth the investment.

Chennai

The Healthcare Hub of the South

Chennai has long been known as a medical hub

Chennai has long been known as a medical hub, drawing patients from across India and even abroad. Healthcare in Chennai is respected for its affordability and strong focus on patient care. This reputation extends to prosthetics as well.

Compared to Mumbai and Bengaluru, prosthetic prices in Chennai are usually lower. However, the quality of care remains excellent, thanks to the presence of experienced prosthetists and leading hospitals.

Price Range in Chennai

In Chennai, mechanical prosthetics often start at around ₹1.1–1.4 lakh, making them among the most affordable in major metros. Advanced bionic prosthetics like the Grippy Bionic Hand remain in the ₹2.15–3 lakh range, similar to other cities, since the product pricing is standardized by Robobionics.

Imported prosthetics are also available, but with prices around ₹8–10 lakh, most patients lean toward local options. The city’s affordability makes it a strong choice for families on tighter budgets.

Why Chennai Keeps Costs Lower

Several reasons explain why Chennai often offers lower prosthetic prices:

  • Lower rent and clinic operating expenses compared to Mumbai or Bengaluru
  • Strong network of government hospitals and charitable trusts that partner with prosthetic providers
  • Availability of trained medical professionals from leading local colleges
  • Lower overall cost of living, which affects service pricing

This combination allows Chennai to provide high-quality prosthetic care without overwhelming costs.

Rehabilitation and Aftercare in Chennai

Chennai’s prosthetic centers are known for their strong focus on long-term care. Many centers provide personalized rehabilitation plans and involve family members closely in the training process.

Because the city attracts patients from across South India, many clinics here are well prepared for ongoing reviews and follow-up sessions. Some even offer low-cost or free review visits for patients who need long-term adjustments.

Accessibility and Travel

Another reason Chennai appeals to patients is accessibility. Compared to the crowded streets of Mumbai or the traffic-heavy roads of Bengaluru, Chennai often feels easier to navigate, especially for people with mobility challenges.

The city is also well connected by train and bus, making it a practical choice for families traveling in from smaller towns.

Why Choose Chennai

If affordability is your top concern, Chennai may be the best option among the four cities. It offers lower prices without sacrificing care. The presence of charitable trusts, government hospitals, and a strong network of prosthetists makes it a reliable city for patients who want quality on a budget.

Comparing the Four Cities

Mumbai vs Delhi

When you look at Mumbai and Delhi, the first difference is cost. Mumbai is India’s most expensive city, and that higher living cost pushes prosthetic prices slightly up. Delhi, on the other hand, has a slightly lower cost of living, and this often makes prosthetics more affordable there.

But cost is not the only factor. Mumbai offers a strong mix of private clinics and advanced facilities, often housed in modern hospitals. Delhi balances things by being home to both private and NGO-supported centers, giving patients more options across different budgets.

If you live in the north, Delhi may feel more practical. If you are already in Mumbai, the convenience of nearby care outweighs the extra expense.

Bengaluru vs Chennai

Bengaluru and Chennai both represent South India but in very different ways. Bengaluru has built its reputation on innovation and technology, with clinics that often introduce modern training methods like gamified rehab apps. Chennai, meanwhile, relies on its long-standing reputation as a medical hub, offering trusted care at more affordable rates.

In Bengaluru, prices are closer to Mumbai, though not quite as high. In Chennai, costs are the lowest among the four cities, making it especially attractive for families who want good quality without high bills.

Both cities deliver excellent care, but the choice depends on what you value more—modern digital rehab and convenience in Bengaluru, or affordability and long-term family-focused care in Chennai.

North vs South

When comparing the northern metros (Mumbai and Delhi) with the southern metros (Bengaluru and Chennai), the cost difference becomes clear. The south generally offers more affordable care, with Chennai leading as the most budget-friendly of the four.

However, the north provides easier access to patients from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and nearby states, while the south is more accessible to patients from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka. Travel distance, therefore, plays a big role in choosing the right city.

Which City Is Truly the Best

The answer depends on your personal priorities. If you want modern facilities and do not mind paying more, Mumbai or Bengaluru are strong choices. If you want affordable care without compromising quality, Delhi and Chennai stand out.

But no matter which city you choose, what matters most is the expertise of the prosthetist and the level of aftercare you receive. A prosthetic is not just about the device—it is about the support system that comes with it.

Practical Factors to Consider

Travel Costs and Convenience

The price of the prosthetic itself is only part of the story.

The price of the prosthetic itself is only part of the story. Travel costs, accommodation, and time away from work or school also matter. If you have to travel from a small town to one of these metros, factor in these extra expenses.

Sometimes, choosing a slightly more expensive city closer to home ends up being cheaper overall than traveling far for a lower device price.

Aftercare and Review Visits

A prosthetic is not a one-time purchase. You will need review visits, fittings, and possible adjustments over time. Choosing a city where you can easily return for these visits makes a big difference.

For example, someone in Uttar Pradesh may find Delhi more practical, even if Chennai offers lower upfront costs. Similarly, someone from Tamil Nadu will likely save money and effort by choosing Chennai over Bengaluru or Mumbai.

Availability of Specialists

Not every city has the same number of skilled prosthetists. Mumbai and Delhi, being larger metros, often attract more specialists. Bengaluru, with its tech and startup culture, has a growing number of young experts bringing fresh ideas. Chennai benefits from its strong medical education base, producing highly skilled professionals at affordable costs.

Before making a decision, it helps to know not just the price of the prosthetic but also who will be guiding your journey.

Type of Prosthetic You Need

Mechanical prosthetics, advanced bionic hands, and imported devices all come with different price tags. Some cities have more experience handling specific types of devices. For example, Bengaluru clinics may have more exposure to digital rehab for bionics, while Chennai may specialize more in affordable mechanical solutions.

Matching your needs with the city’s strengths helps ensure you get the best outcome.

How Robobionics Standardizes Pricing

Fair Pricing Across India

At Robobionics, we believe that a prosthetic should not become unaffordable simply because of where you live. That is why we maintain standardized pricing for our flagship products like the Grippy Bionic Hand. Whether you are in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, or Chennai, the price of Grippy stays in the same range: ₹2.15–3 lakh.

This transparency ensures you do not have to worry about hidden costs or unfair markups.

What Your Quote Includes

When you receive a quote from Robobionics, it includes more than just the device. Trials, fittings, and review visits are part of the package. This means no surprises later and no extra charges for the most important parts of your journey.

Even if you move cities, your care continues. Our network of partner clinics across India ensures that you always have access to support.

Why This Matters

Healthcare can sometimes feel confusing, especially when prices change from city to city. By keeping our pricing fair and consistent, Robobionics removes one layer of stress. This way, you can focus on learning to use your prosthetic and rebuilding your confidence, instead of worrying about unexpected bills.

The Value of Local Manufacturing

Another reason we can keep costs steady is that 60 of the 64 components in our devices are made locally in India. By reducing dependence on expensive imports, we pass the savings directly to our users.

This makes our prosthetics not only affordable but also proudly Indian—built to serve our people with dignity and care.

Real Stories That Show the Difference

Finding Hope in Mumbai

A young professional in Mumbai once told us he was worried about losing his independence after an accident. He thought a prosthetic would feel unnatural and was afraid of the costs. But after his trial and fitting sessions, he realized the prosthetic gave him back not just his hand, but also his confidence at work.

Even though Mumbai prices were higher, the convenience of nearby support made his journey smoother. He now calls his prosthetic his “second chance.”

Delhi’s Balance of Cost and Care

In Delhi, a college student received her Grippy Bionic Hand through one of our partner clinics. For her, the key was affordability. Her family compared costs in several cities but chose Delhi because it balanced price and quality.

With regular training and review visits, she quickly adapted to daily tasks like writing and using her phone. Today, she is back to pursuing her studies without hesitation.

Bengaluru’s Love for Innovation

A Bengaluru user, who worked in IT, loved exploring technology. For him, the Grippy’s Sense of Touch technology was a perfect match. He enjoyed the gamified rehab training, which made the learning process fun.

While the city’s costs were higher than Chennai’s, he valued the digital innovation and support system available locally. It felt like a natural fit for his lifestyle.

Chennai’s Affordable Care

A father in Chennai needed a prosthetic after an accident at work. His family was concerned about the costs. In Chennai, they found quality care at a price they could manage. The availability of affordable rehab services and follow-ups helped him adapt quickly.

For him, the biggest gift was being able to play with his children again without relying on others.

Choosing What Works for You

It’s Not Just About the Price

When it comes to prosthetics

When it comes to prosthetics, the cheapest option is not always the best, and the most expensive one is not always superior. The real value lies in how the prosthetic fits your life—your comfort, your independence, and your ability to live without limits.

This is why it is so important to look beyond the numbers. Consider the travel, the aftercare, the expertise of the prosthetist, and the support you will receive long after the first fitting.

What All Four Cities Teach Us

Mumbai shows us that convenience and advanced facilities matter. Delhi reminds us that affordability and accessibility can go hand in hand. Bengaluru highlights the importance of innovation and modern rehab tools. Chennai proves that quality can still be affordable when supported by the right network of care.

Together, these cities paint a full picture of what India offers today in prosthetic care.

How Robobionics Makes the Choice Easier

Whether you are in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, or Chennai, Robobionics keeps its pricing consistent. You will not pay more just because of where you live. Our range for the Grippy Bionic Hand stays between ₹2.15–3 lakh everywhere.

This gives you peace of mind. You can choose your city based on convenience and care, not fear of hidden costs.
